Overview

Greater Long Island City is a unique corner of New York, located at the geographic heart of the City. LIC is made up of a mix of manufacturers, service providers, arts and cultural institutions, galleries, residents, and retail/ restaurant establishments. This environment offers both lifestyle benefits and the functionality of New York City's fourth largest central business district, with a potential development of twenty million square feet. A beautiful waterfront interspersed with parks hugs the East River with an impressive Manhattan skyline view.

Culturally, greater Long Island City is home to a diverse ethnic fabric of people from around the world. The diversity and culture of the area is reflected in a multitude of shopping districts offering visitors and residents alike with an abundance of opportunity and choice. Shopping in Central Astoria, Courthouse Square, and Hunters Point is supplemented by a concentration of large retailers including Staples, Sports Authority, and Costco Wholesale, among others.

The area is home to more than 89,000 jobs, making it one of NYC's largest and most diversified employment centers outside Manhattan, and is one of the largest regional employment centers in the Tri-State area, comparable to Jersey City (61,000), New Haven (65,000), and Stamford (68,000). The Citicorp Tower is a highly visible center of financial services employment, while Kaufman Astoria Studios and Silvercup Studios make the District an east coast center of television and motion picture production and post-production.
