Painter Juvenal Reis had a studio in the Wills Art Deco Building, a CyberCity@LIC program participant with many artist tenants. He moved out to create his own arts collective at 43-01 22nd St., Juvenal Reis Studios, by renting a nearby 18,000 s.f. industrial space and dividing it into 27 studios, now occupied by about 40 established working artists from 8 countries, including painters, sculptors, graphic designers, photographers. Learning about it through word of mouth, artists moved in from Williamsburg, DUMBO, Chelsea, and Tribeca. All spaces are newly renovated, with 12’ ceilings, metal doors & concrete floors, access to phone and DSL, most with windows. Painting workshops and open studios are planned.
