Solid Waste, Sanitation, & Recycling

Businesses must make arrangements with a private carter for the collection of recyclables and garbage. The Department of Sanitation does not handle commercial waste.

Build It Green! NYC is New York City's only non-profit retail outlet for salvaged and surplus building materials. Visit them in Astoria at 3-17 26th Avenue or on the web at http://www.bignyc.org.

Materials for The Arts collects a wide range of materials to donate to local arts groups. Call 718.729.3001 or visit them online at http://www.mfta.org/home.html.

Donate your used computers to Per Scholas.  They are a nonprofit organization that brings computers to  low-income children and families at the lowest possible cost, trains community residents to gain employment as computer technicians and provides environmentally responsible recycling of end-of-life computer equipment. http://www.perscholas.org/

NY Wa$teMatch, New York City's materials exchange and solid waste reduction program, provides reuse, recycling and other innovative waste solutions to boost your bottom line. Reduce disposal costs, generate revenue and obtain raw materials for free through their materials exchanges and technical assistance services. http://www.wastematch.org/

Recycle This! is a citizen's recycling group, as is Freecycle.
