As of second quarter of 2009, there were 6,586 manufacturing firms in NYC, with 130,000 employees. In NYC, annual average manufacturing wages were $52,000 in 2008, compared to $35,000 in retail or $24,000 in restaurants. (US Census, the NYS Department of Labor, and NYIRN.)
